Meet the Maker

Hello, I’m Scarlett, an illustrator based in the UK. I draw people and pets to create portraits that can be cherished and kept for generations. Using my calligraphy skills, I can also add lettering to your portrait, or I can make a unique artwork to display your favourite phrase, a child’s name, a bible verse, or literally anything else that involves letters! I just love creating special pieces that you can display in your home or gift to a loved one.

Ever since a young child, I have always loved creating. But as I moved into adulthood, my pencils and paintbrushes started to gather dust and I stopped making art altogether. When life became less busy in lockdown, I decided to teach myself a new artistic skill and I would spend hours practising hand-lettering and calligraphy. I found joy in creating again and I started to dream about starting my own creative business. This dreaming was cut short though as life soon got on top of me again. I put my pens away in their drawer and my focus shifted.

I became a teacher and started using my creativity to grow young minds. My nurturing nature combined with my tendency towards perfectionism led to burnout and ultimately a crisis point in my mental health. Although it has been one of the darkest and most difficult times in my life, my battle with mental-ill-health gave me the pause I needed to reflect on my career and the push I needed to reignite my childhood creativity. I started drawing again and it became my therapy. I was making art everyday and I started to feel a purpose again. That dream of starting a creative business returned and I finally had the time to act on it.

So here I am, now the creator of Saltpip Studio, where I make art that reminds you of the most important things in life. It brings me joy to use my creativity to celebrate family, faith and the things that bring you happiness.
